How MASTERFLEX Polymers Work
Masterflex 610 is made of modified vinyl co-polymers, which have the unique ability to absorb water (or other liquids) into its molecular structure. That absorbing action causes MASTERFLEX 610 to swell, even in the most confined spaces, thereby creating a watertight seal. MASTERFLEX 610's swelling action is both controlled and reversible, so that only enough pressure is exerted to maintain that seal, without causing stress or damage to the structure. Also, MASTERFLEX 610 swells without foaming. Therefore, there are no air bubbles, which can break down and lead to leaks. Hence a structure sealed with MASTERFLEX 610 will stay watertight.
MASTERFLEX 610 Swelling Gaskets:
- seal joints effectively & efficiently by reacting with water to swell and seal the joint tightly.
- are simple to install. No split formwork nor alteration to reinforcing steel is needed, thereby saving you money.
- swell on the surface - when in contact with water - and stop its flow. Unlike other similar systems, MASTERFLEX 610 will not 'wick' water across the joint.
To select the right MASTERFLEX 610 swelling gasket for the job take note of these important criteria:
Structure size |
Permanent groundwater table |
Anticipated joint or crack widths |
Contaminants in ground water |
Highest water level expected |
Electrolytic water (e.g. saltwater) |
Anticipated settlement (e.g. when abutting an old structure) |
Chemically tainted water |
